I have found that life teaches through experiences.
Mark Bick, Student Intern (he/him)
I have found that life teaches through experiences - some good, some not as good. I realized that we can heal through experience-based therapy. Experiential therapy creates new avenues for a safer and more secure exploration of self through emotions, feelings and connecting to our deepest self.
My personal healing journey began when an acupuncturist and Nicaraguan medicine woman friend, Ciarra, said, “Mark, there is a little boy (inner-child) inside of you that needs healing.” A few weeks later I began seeing a hypnotherapist who set my inner-child on the path towards the healing process. With guidance of the hypnotherapist, I began to understand and explore the areas of my life that were being influenced by my past traumas. I also was able to explore my relationship with myself, my family and my friends. I quickly began removing the layers and layers of sadness, grief, guilt and shame that I had been carrying. Slowly, I began to take back my personal power through cultivating compassion, mindful living and the reparenting of my inner-child.
Self-exploration allows us to know the “why’s” and the “how’s” of the choices we make and the beliefs we have about ourselves. Our inner-wisdom guides us throughout the session while our wise self or inner-child can help us find the places within that need the most healing.
My background is in Hypnotherapy and leading personal transformation intensive workshops for adults and teens. I am a certified clinical hypnotherapist in the state of Washington, which is where I completed three years of advanced hypnotherapy training. After training and working with many clients, I decided to become a Marriage and Family Therapist, so I could reach a larger population, broaden my therapeutic skills and connect with others on a similar path. Currently, I am a second-year student at Nova Southeastern University, specializing in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. I also teach Social and Emotional Learning skills and provide at-risk student assessments, for a middle-school in Fort Lauderdale.
Each experiential therapy is very unique on their own, but equine-assisted psychotherapy, is my passion and calling. Horses have an innate ability to mirror our sub-conscious network of feelings and emotions. Horses are empathetic animals which allow them to be the perfect co-therapist. Horses also teach us the benefits of being grounded and centered in our bodies, just by being present with ourself and our surroundings.
I utilize equine-assisted psychotherapy, hypnotherapy (which is different than hypnosis), play therapy, mindfulness, guided meditation and emotion-focused therapy techniques. I balance the experiential therapies with cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and narrative therapy techniques. These three specific cognitive therapies compliment experiential therapies by establishing a healthy and balanced mind-body-spirit connection.
I love working with anyone that is ready and willing to take the next step on their journey toward freedom from anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, shame, addictions, sadness, grief and insecurity. I see you. I hear you. I help children, teens and adults grow through trauma and change.
