Counseling for Teens
Your teen feels so far away, even when they're sitting next to you. You know adolescents can be rough, but this seems different. You can see the struggle inside themselves and don't know how to help. They are drowning in anger, fear, pride or resentment, refusing every lifeline you provide. You are at your wits end and hate to watch them go down this path. They won't listen to you and you don't know where else to turn.
We get it, being a teen means working with a brain that is fighting itself. They struggle against authority even when they know it's the wrong thing to do. They argue about everything, even when you agree with them. Teenager stop listening to adults and rely on each other - even though their friends are not in any better position to make decisions. All in all, teens can be exhausting to be around!
At this point you're ready for them to turn 18 so they won't be your problem. We get it! At Berger Counseling Services, we work with teens to uncover their kinder, more regulated side. We know teens often do not want to be in therapy. We know we stand apart from the traditional therapist by creating, moving, doing.
Imagine that your teen was living up to their potential, was an interactive, engaged family member. Imagine what life would be like without all the arguments.
This is the age that struggles mightily to grow into their new self. The process is called individuation, but we know it is the struggle to become our own person - taking some of the rituals, traditions, skills from their peers, family and social media to create who they want to be in their future. Let us help shape that future!
We work with teens and their families to negotiate healthier boundaries, goal setting and communication skills. Teens often feel that they are sent to therapy to be "fixed." At Berger Counseling Services, we believe that working as a holistic team with the whole family, everyone benefits.
We engage difficult to reach teens to activities that push them to express, grow and build healthier patterns. We may be adults (and therefore not cool), but we work to create an atmosphere were teens can be heard and channeled into healthier actions and reactions. We incorporate art, play, games, sandtray and horses into services. When we do instead of talk, teens can listen and hear their own internalized voice better. That little voice inside their head that says "calm down," "be kind" and "believe in yourself."
